About

Over 125 Years of Andrews Farmers in America

The Andrews Company dates all the way back to 1900, when Dan’s grandfather, Sam Andrews, and three of his brothers (from a rather large family of five boys and five girls) immigrated to the United States from Lebanon. At that time, Charles and Abe Andrews settled in Cambridge, Ohio’s old Guernsey County where they opened a produce store. From there, the Andrews Brothers Company moved to Detroit, where they became the originators of seven more active produce firms.

During the 1930’s, Sam Andrews re-established his company in Los Angeles. He was a broker at the time, but seeing that the war had shortened supplies, Andrews became a shipper also, thus supplying his own products.

In the 1950’s Dan’s father, Robert Andrews, began farming in the Imperial Valley and formed a three-way partnership Sam Andrews’ Sons with his brothers Fred and Don. In 1957, they expanded into Bakersfield. For thirty-seven years Sam Andrews’ Sons grew lettuce, cabbage, carrots, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, cotton, wheat and alfalfa in both the Imperial Valley and Bakersfield. The brothers dissolved the partnership in the late 1980’s. Then, each brother started his own farming company and they employed their children, the third generation of Andrews’ in agriculture, to eventually manage the companies.

After working as Sales Manager for Robert Andrews for sixteen years, Dan started his own produce growing and shipping company, Dan Andrews Farms, in 2007.
